Participants in the study reported feeling more secure knowing that assistance is just a moment away should the situation escalate. This was particularly relevant in solo deployments and high-risk interventions, where remote oversight can provide critical backup and peace of mind.
Effective Across Daily and Specialist Policing
The study reveals that live video provides significant benefits not only during routine patrols but also in specialised operations. A particularly positive finding concerned police negotiation teams. In crisis negotiation situations, live bodycams allowed supervisors and team members to monitor the exchange remotely without disrupting the delicate interaction. This provided real-time situational awareness, enabling timely support or intervention when necessary, and ultimately improved safety and outcomes during these high-stakes encounters.
Technological Readiness for Outdoor Operations
The technology has evolved to a point where live-streaming bodycams function reliably in most outdoor environments. This makes them suitable for a broad range of operational contexts, as confirmed by multiple pilots cited in the report.

While the advantages are clear, the study also emphasises the importance of thoughtful implementation. Effective use depends on having the infrastructure and trained personnel to monitor live feeds, as well as clear frameworks for data privacy and legal compliance.
